Proteins are the bodies building blocks; they combine with nucleic acids to form nucleoproteins and can be found in every cell in our body.  Bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons all need protein to remain healthy. Protein is also necessary for repairing and replacing our worn-out parts.  There is still some debate on how much protein we need, but Dr. Sears recommends a 1/2 gram of protein per pound of body weight for children over 4 and 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight for the average adult.
