I know, I know how many times can I talk about this topic? I can talk about as many times as it takes people to stop buying, chemically filled products. According to the EPA, 50% of all illness can be traced to indoor pollution, which can be directly related to household cleaners.  Women get hit the hardest, 54,000 women are diagnosed annually with auto-immune disorders, and a contributing cause of auto-immune are phthalates which can be found in every one of the products we use daily from make-up to air fresheners.  Women are always asking me; “WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS PUSHING CHEMICAL-FREE PRODUCTS.” I not so nicely respond, “When you realize the shit you use every day is making you ill and the people in your homesick too!” Seems pretty damn selfish if you ask me.

You may not give a crap about your health but did you know:

By the way, this also pertains to the chemicals you spray in the air to rid the room of that poopie diaper smell, those harmful fragrance oils enter your lungs & your babies too. This might seem harsh but to be honest, it’s meant to be and if it makes you mad it should but not mad at me. It should make you angry at the companies that fill our grocery shelves with products that they know damn well are making us sick!  The blame isn’t entirely on them either because we keep buying the shit and by the billions. So, why would they stop supplying us with it? You think Ulta is closing up anytime soon? Is P&G filing Chapter 13, NOPE! The fact is many people are not aware or educated on the dangers of the toxins that fill most of the products they use daily.

Have you ever thought about how dangerous these chemicals are to your pets? This video was shared over 3 million times. I think people are interested but are they going to make a change?

Let’s break it down!

You clean the house using a variety of sprays, scrubs, and cleansers. Your dog sleeps on the floor, licks things off the floor then licks herself; your dogs is also absorbing all of these toxins through their skin and pads of her feet. Your dog or cat (can’t leave the kitties out) takes in these chemicals at a much higher rate than you. Ever wonder why dogs are not living as long as they once did? Or why the rate of fatal illnesses are on the rise?

Health & Beauty Products

I haven’t even started to talk about make-up and health & beauty products.  I will be sharing a post very soon on this topic; below is a sneak peek at just a few of the chemicals I will be covering.

Here are only 5 of the toxic chemicals found in make-up & health/beauty products-

  • Quaternium-15: this one isn’t spoken about a lot, but women apply it to their lashes every day. This is a highly carcinogenic compound is known to target the brain and the central nervous system. (FUN) check out some more fun facts Material Safety Sheet
  • Parabens: These wonders mimic estrogen and throw hormones out of whack.  Looking for an endocrine disruptor, you’ve found one.
  • Siloxanes: Another not so talked about chemical found in cosmetics and skin care.  You ask what this lovely ingredient has been linked it’s a possible endocrine system disruptor and toxic to the reproductive system.
  •  Octinoxate: Ever wonder why there’s an uptick in thyroid disorders in women; young and old. You can thank this little guy for that for that one.
  • Phthalates: My personal favorite! Another possible link to endocrine system disruption, which is responsible for hormone production. What can interference of the endocrine system lead to: developmental, reproductive, and neurological damage.

These posts may drive you nuts but what I hope they do is wake you up and encourage to remove harmful toxins from your home. You can do this by making your own chemical-free products, or you can buy one of our plant-based cleaners here. This one cleaner does it all and is highly concentrated one 16oz Bottle costs about $1.79.

If you have questions are do not know where to start; you can email us at infowaldorfsaladcottagefries@gmail.com, and we can help you remove these harmful chemicals from your home one step at a time.

  1. I have been doing a lot of research into the products we use and what is in them, in an effort to live better. My kids have been getting sick so much and my husband has allergies as well as asthma. So it is important for us to be careful with what we use in our home. Such a huge change from when I was growing up!

    1. It really is and kids are now being born with endocrine issues that are linked directly to phthalates and this is something we can control. I also recommend adding a room purifier for those environmental toxins we can’t see.

  5. We are continually exposed to a mélange of potentially toxic chemicals through the air we breathe, food and water we consume, and products that come in contact with our skin. Some of these chemicals are suspected of interfering with hormone function; causing cancer, asthma or other respiratory harm; damaging the brain and nervous system; and promoting reproductive disorders or negatively impacting developing embryos.

  9. Thanks for sharing this information, it is so important that people pay attention to the products that they use and what’s actually in them and how that all affects their health. I do believe the rise in auto-immune diseases like Lupus and Psoriasis and others is directly tied to chemical laden foods, as well as, the chemicals in household products.

Posted on 11/12/2018 at 6:26 am
    1. Bobbie, you’re spot on and we are seeing more and more young children with these auto-immune disorders too
